As we approach the end of 2024, I find myself reflecting on another remarkable year for ICD Europe. It’s been a year of significant achievements, but we’ve also faced our fair share of challenges. With the global economy in a state of flux, supply chains under pressure, and market conditions constantly shifting, staying resilient and adaptable has never been more important. These challenges have tested us, but they have also pushed us to innovate, collaborate, and grow in ways that we are immensely proud of.
Launching ICD Superalloys Australia
This year marked a bold step forward in our global expansion with the launch of ICD Superalloys Australia, the first dedicated superalloy processing facility to be established in the country. Located in Canning Vale, Western Australia, this new facility is strategically positioned to serve Australia and South-East Asia, providing faster turnaround times for our customers in key industries like aerospace, medical, petrochemical, and automotive.
This new facility represents a major milestone in our growth and global expansion. With a total area of 3,500m², the site features full revert process capabilities for a wide range of minor metals, including Molybdenum, Tantalum, and Titanium.
We were pleased to appoint Clive Reader as Managing Director of ICD Superalloys Australia. Clive brings a wealth of experience in the superalloy industry, and his appointment is a significant step as we establish ourselves as a strategic hub for supplying, processing, and recycling minor metals and superalloy revert across the rapidly developing Asia-Pacific region. Clive’s leadership will be invaluable as we work towards attaining the company’s strategic objectives.
A double royal recognition
Undoubtedly, one of the proudest moments of the year was receiving the King’s Award for Enterprise in International Trade. This prestigious award marks our second royal recognition, following the Queen’s Award for International Tradein 2022, and places us among a select group of companies to have received both awards.
Earlier this year, our Commercial Director Chris Brzozowski had the honour of attending a reception hosted by HRH King Charles III at Windsor Castle to celebrate the winners of The King’s Awards for Enterprise 2024. His Majesty was fascinated to learn about ICD Europe Ltd's role as a recycler and supplier of critical minerals and metals, and took particular interest in how we source, analyse, and prepare our products.
This was followed by the official awards ceremony, held at our Sheffield headquarters on 18th October. Dame Hillary Chapman, Lord Lieutenant of South Yorkshire, presented the award to Chris, and we were honoured to welcome distinguished guests such as Clive Betts MP and Mr. Charles Turner DL, past Master Cutler of the Company of Cutlers in Hallamshire.
To celebrate this collective achievement, we hosted a traditional pie and peas lunch for the whole team, followed by an afternoon of fun activities, including bowling, ping-pong, and shuffleboard. It was a wonderful way to show our appreciation for the team’s dedication and hard work, without which, this award wouldn’t have been possible.
Gold sustainability rating
One of the milestones that stands out most is our achievement of another Gold sustainability rating from EcoVadis. Sustainability has always been a core focus for us, and this recognition is an affirmation of the hard work we’ve put into making responsible and ethical business practices a central part of everything we do.
Receiving the Gold rating is no small feat, placing us among the top 5% of companies globally in terms of sustainability performance. This achievement reflects our ongoing commitment to environmental responsibility, social progress, and ethical governance. It also signals our dedication to reducing our carbon footprint and embedding sustainability throughout our operations - from the materials we source to the processes we adopt. We will continue to push the boundaries in this area, ensuring that sustainability remains a priority in all aspects of our work.
Made in Sheffield Export award
Earlier this year, we were incredibly proud to take home the Made in Sheffield Export award, an achievement that underscores our ongoing success in international trade and the vital role we play in promoting British manufacturing to the global market.
We were also thrilled to be recognised as the second fastest growing manufacturing company in the Yorkshire region in Insider Media's Manufacturing 100 index.
Looking ahead
As we move into 2025, we are more focused than ever on continuing our growth and advancing our commitment to sustainability, innovation, and global expansion. While we’ve accomplished a great deal this year, we’re still mindful of the challenges ahead. We’ll continue to adapt, evolve, and invest in the future - always with the goal of serving our customers, supporting our team, and contributing to a more sustainable and ethical world.
To all our customers, partners, and team members - thank you for being part of our journey. Your support has been invaluable, and together, we’ve achieved great things. We look forward to continuing this journey with you in 2025 and beyond.
